Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the New Hampshire Interlocal Trust?

The New Hampshire Interlocal Trust is a member owned and governed not-for-profit 5-B health insurance risk pool. Our exclusive partnership with Harvard Pilgrim Health Care makes us New Hampshire’s only public entity trust and insurance partner offering not-for-profit health plans.

Through our partnership with Harvard Pilgrim, we offer an extensive and comprehensive portfolio of Medical and Prescription Drug plans focused on the health benefit needs of New Hampshire local governments. Our portfolio is designed to offer options comparable to your existing coverage, and also includes additional innovative plan options exclusive to the Interlocal Trust.

NHIT also provides advice and administrative support services to employer group administrators for day to day assistance. We help in responding to coverage & claims related questions, resolving any claims-related disputes and assistance with Affordable Care Act Compliance. As an NHIT member group, direct retiree & NHRS billing, FSA/HRA & COBRA Administration and RDS Program assistance are all offered at no additional cost.

How would my Harvard Pilgrim coverage work?

Harvard Pilgrim serves as the claims and network administrator for our health program and provides member support via their Member Services Department. NHIT contracts with Harvard Pilgrim to provide Member Services to our members directly. Harvard Pilgrim Member Services Representatives answer questions about specific claims, benefits, policies and procedures.

Does NHIT offer additional benefit programs?

Yes! In addition to the plan designs from Harvard Pilgrim, the New Hampshire Interlocal Trust provides many value packed programs to members at no additional cost!

  • Trust Work-Life Assistance Program (EAP) is available to all employees of the Member Group, regardless of enrollment in the Interlocal Trust health program. Licensed Counselors offer confidential consultations for a wide range of personal, family or workplace concerns. This is a free and confidential program with 24/7 access, designed to help when you need it.
  • Reduce My Costs is a voluntary savings program that enables participants to make smart health care decisions based on cost information. Employees and enrolled family members are able to receive a 20% reward (up to a $2000 per service) of any savings on many non-emergency medical services.
  • Doctor on Demand offers virtual and convenient video visits with licensed doctors, psychologists and psychiatrists for non-emergency medical conditions.
  • Harvard Pilgrim offers a variety of programs and benefits to Interlocal Trust Members. Programs include member savings opportunities, access to Nurse Case Managers, Clinical Transition Assistance, Know your Cost Tool, Parent Portal and much more!

When it comes to your overall wellness, modern science indicates that dental health plays a pivotal role. That is why we are happy to be able to offer dental insurance as part of our comprehensive employee benefits platform. Through our preferred partners, we can match just about any plan design and provide competitive pricing for our members.

    Other Insurance Coverage

    Dental & Vision Coverage

When it comes to employee benefits, dental is second only to health in utilization. Anyone with glasses or contacts has no choice but to put optical health into focus. We are happy to be able to provide these benefits as part of our comprehensive employee benefits platform.

    Group Long-Term & Short-Term Disability

If your employees get hurt on the job, they are covered by workers compensation. But what if they get sick or hurt while off the job? This is where group disability plans come into the picture. Protecting your employees on and off the job is key to having a well-rounded employee benefits program.

    Group Life and AD&D

Only about 50% of households in the U.S. own life insurance, and many of them rely on their employer to provide it. While it is a very small budget line item, group life insurance is an important part of your employee’s benefits plan.

    Voluntary Benefits

Your employee’s personal risk management needs may go beyond the scope of your benefits program. For employer’s that truly want to give their employees the opportunity to bulletproof their personal risk; they can do so by offering voluntary benefits.

    Our Customers

“The entire NHIT team is wonderful! I reach out to them regularly looking for an answer to a question or resolve an issue!! Sometimes it involves an employee or retiree who is looking for an answer or a temporary ID. They get back to me or the individual quickly, which is very much appreciated, and makes my job easier. We have also had great feedback from our employees about the NHIT Benefit programs — Wellness, Reduce My Costs, Doctor on Demand and the EAP.”

“NHIT’s staff provides excellent customer service and training for our staff. This talented group has provided great education to the employees to assist them in managing/using their health benefits, which has helped our employees to manage their out of pocket health care costs. The NHIT staff has also provided plan guidance and wellness training, which has again benefited the employees. This outstanding customer service is a great value to our small community.”

“The districts of SAU 9 have been with the New Hampshire Interlocal Trust since its inception, and their customer service is just outstanding! They’re big enough to handle our relatively large number of participants, but still small enough to allow us a personal connection with everyone at the NHIT office. As a North Country district, I was concerned about receiving the attention needed during the transition, plan changes, etc. but they’ve consistently made us feel like we’re right next door.”
